Sámi Trademarks – Sámi certification marks for Sámi handicrafter and producers

Sámi Duodji and Sámi Made trademarks are owned by the Sámi people and managed by the Sámi Council. The trademarks guarantee that a product is made by a Sámi. When you use these trademarks or buy products with the trademarks, you are supporting the Sámi community. The trademark system implements the Sámi people's right to self-determination over their own culture, traditional Sámi crafts and Sámi products, and to respond to the challenges of the appropriation of Sámi culture.

Apply for a license

Products inspired by Sámi culture but not made by Sámis are a big challenge for the entire Sámi community. If you are a duojár and want to show that you are selling genuine duodji, you should apply for the Sámi Duodji trademark. If you are a Sámi or a Sámi company that wants to show that the products are made by a Sámi, you should apply for the Sámi Made trademark. It is possible to apply for both trademarks.

There is a continuous application process for the Sámi Made trademark, but applications are processed about once a month (except in Summer).

Applications for Sámi Duodji are accepted a few times a year. The application period for summer 2024 will end:

  • 1.6. In Sweden
  • 15/6 in Norway
  • Week 36 in Finland (more information to come)
